Stormers must win, for SA’s own good!

First and foremost well done to the Sharks for a brilliant performance this weekend against the Reds. It was delightful to watch a match were a South African team played rugby with such fluency and flair that it seemed like a Mozart composition being enacted by 15 men in black. Simply stupendous! End of the road for Bulls?

End of the road?

The Bulls have all but been written off for their encounter against the Crusaders this weekend, while there is some hope for the black and white dynamites to come good against the Reds in Brisbane. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Super Rugby season a success?

So we were left with the last round of the 2012 Super Rugby season to see who the Top 6 would be! The top 2 were basically already established, with the Crusaders also confirmed as finalists, but the Hurricanes, Brumbies, Reds, Bulls and Sharks all had chances to make the finals.

Stormers ditch defense for attack?

Last year the Stormers suffered hars cricism for their inability to convert their dominance into tries. At Newlands, in 9 home games, they only mustered 14 tries, including a 6 try haul against the Western Force. This was ranked third lowest of the competition. Oddly enough, their away try tally was much better than at home, scoring 20 tries while on the road, jointly the third best away try tally and in total for the season, they ended up scoring the 6th least tries with 34. It’s here!

The time has arrived! At 8:35 on 24 February, the SuperRugby tournament for 2012 kicks off.  This year’s tournament runs over 20 weeks of the year, only being interrupted for three weeks of test rugby in June. Otherwise, it’s week in and week out rugby, Rugby, RUGBY!

We kick off with the Blues hosting the Crusaders early Friday morning, after that the Jake White Brumbies taking on the James O’Connor’less Force and a new look Bulls side (including kit) Spearheaded by Spies aiming to catch the Sharks off guard at Loftus, all on Friday!

It’s very difficult to assess the sides at this time as almost all the teams have a very new look to them. Sonny Bill left to Crusaders for the Chiefs to partner up with Kahui; there is no Dan Carter, McCaw, twinkle toes Quade Cooper, or Piri Weepu and Zac Guildford is probably in rehab still. We have newcomers abound, and looking at the sides, it almost seems as if the Lions and the Blues are the most consistent teams from last season!

So, my take on the fixtures this weekend:
