Stormers tackling themselves into submission? – By Bloues

Coach, let's run with it for a change!

I just read on Rugby365 that Nick Koster is also heading home after a recurring knee injury. This after Duane Vermeulen also flew home for a similar injury.

What bothers me about both cases is the fact that the players have reportedly been nursing these injuries for a while now. It has been reported that Vermeulen sat out some practice sessions in order to rest his dodgy knee and Koster has been sidelined for fourteen months before.

It’s not the first time that the Stormers have been plagued by injuries. If i’m not mistaken the current squad have been hampered by injuries for the past four years now.

It has often been said that injuries is one thing that is out of the management’s control, but there’s definitely a pattern emerging at the Cape franchise. The Bulls have managed to complete their seasons mostly injury free for the past few seasons with Fourie du Preez long layoff at the beginning of last year the only major injury layoff for a key player. Other than that they had the odd niggle which tested their depth.

Is there something wrong with the Stormers’ conditioning? I am not familiar with their current conditioning coach, but I believe that is’t been the same guy for the past four years.

The other thing I wonder about is how are the injuries related to the massive tackle count the players put in week after week. Is it a coincidence that the best defensive team for the past four years have also been the team most affected by injuries?

Or are the Stormers just unlucky?

Your thoughts on this matter will be appreciated.

I agree with you. All the tackling must take its toll

Apologies Bloues, I only see now that you posted this.

Uysh, I said it at the start of the season, you cannot keep defending and defending. Somehow, somewhere, something has to give. I just hope the Stormers do not hit a speed wobble from now on.
